Activities
The Marine Field Research
Facility of our department is situated in the coastal village of Pudhumadam in
close proximity to the Gulf of Mannar Marine Biosphere Reserve region. We
conduct a wide range of research from understanding fundamental marine and
coastal ecological process to exploring a variety of novel marine natural
products to biomedical applications.
Within the realm of
understanding basic marine and coastal ecological process we are much focused in
monitoring Ocean Carbon and Ocean Acidification process and its impact on
marine calcifiers in the Gulf of Mannar region. Our ongoing efforts is to strengthen
our research team for continuous long term recording of multiple stressors that
induce increasing ocean acidity in the marine biosphere reserve region of the
Gulf of Mannar region towards understanding the temporal and spatial
variability of carbon budget in the anticipated global climate change scenario.
