Activities
I have been involved in biodiversity monitoring and environmental compliance activities through my work with Eskom. My work duties include vegetation management (with a focus on invasive alien species control), habitat protection, and wildlife incident reporting in operational environments. I also supported environmental assessments, EMP development, compliance monitoring, and stakeholder engagement, including with regulatory bodies such as DFFE and EDTEA.
My recent training and professional development have included GHG accounting, environmental incident management, and integrated risk management. I am especially interested in advancing my capacity in biodiversity monitoring using innovative methods such as eDNA to improve conservation, species detection, and habitat monitoring in African ecosystem.
Skills
I have developed strong skills in biodiversity and ecosystem monitoring, including vegetation management, invasive species control, and habitat protection in high-risk operational environments. My experience includes conducting environmental compliance inspections, audits, and incident investigations, as well as drafting and reviewing Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) and supporting Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs). I am skilled in engaging with contractors, regulatory authorities, and stakeholders to ensure environmental compliance and awareness. I have also gained technical competence in environmental risk management, greenhouse gas accounting (Scopes 1–3), and ISO 14001-aligned procedures. My communication skills allow me to prepare clear reports, deliver environmental inductions, and raise awareness through training and events. I am motivated to expand these skills by integrating advanced biodiversity monitoring tools, particularly environmental DNA (eDNA), into my professional practice.

I hold a BSc in Environmental Science and am a registered Candidate Scientist under SACNASP. While I do not yet have a postgraduate qualification, my professional experience in biodiversity monitoring, environmental compliance, and sustainability provides me with a strong foundation to contribute meaningfully to this training. I believe this opportunity will allow me to deepen my technical expertise in environmental DNA and transfer these skills to support conservation and biodiversity monitoring initiatives in South Africa and across Africa. I am highly motivated to expand my scientific knowledge through capacity-building opportunities such as this program.
