I am a phytoplankton taxonomist specializing in the identification and monitoring of harmful algal blooms (HABs) in Ecuador. My work involves both field sampling and laboratory analysis. I collect water samples through oceanographic bottle sampling and net tows during research expeditions, primarily in coastal waters and the Galápagos Islands. In the laboratory, I analyze these samples using microscopy to identify phytoplankton species, focusing on harmful taxa. My research contributes to national databases, early warning systems for HABs, and policy recommendations for marine ecosystem management in the Pacific region.
