Marine ecologist and conservation practitioner with an affinity for complexities at the science-policy-society interface. 20+ years research experience, 8 years as government scientist in South Africa (DFFE), implementing and managing a multi-partner coastal monitoring programme. Honorary Research associate, guest lecturer, postgraduate supervisor and mentor at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and other universities (e.g. UKZN, NMU, CPUT, SUN).
Determined to pursue synergies and solutions for people and planet by influencing policy and practice, up until recently as advisor to the German government (BMZ), employed by GIZ.
Passionate about capacity development, education and mentorship. Founder of LIMPET - Longterm Intertidal Monitoring Through Participation, Evaluation & Training - an ocean literacy and youth citizen science program.
