Activities
As a seasoned expert in marine and coastal
management, I have dedicated nearly two decades to the field, focusing on
marine planning, marine carbon sink assessment, and accounting. Currently, I
lead the Coastal Science and Marine Planning Center at the First Institute of
Oceanography, MNR, China, where I also serve as a Chief Expert in Marine
Spatial Planning, Professor, and Doctoral Supervisor. My work spans the
development of national and regional policies, including the creation of
China's first comprehensive marine carbon sink accounting industry standard and
the establishment of a national standard for marine carbon sink classification.
My research extends into the socio-economic
aspects of marine management, evidenced by my leadership in Territorial Spatial
Planning and Marine Economic Planning projects across various administrative
levels. I have been instrumental in advancing blue carbon research,
contributing to the international understanding and practices of marine carbon
sinks, including collaboration with global organizations like the World Bank
and the United Nations. I also hold a prominent role in shaping the future of
ocean management through international cooperation, including the Sino-European
Blue Carbon Cooperation Platform and the GLOBAL ONCE Program.
My academic contributions are extensive,
with over 200 publications in high-impact journals, 40 books, and numerous
patents. As an educator, I have mentored over 30 postgraduate students,
fostering the next generation of ocean scientists. My involvement in
international projects, such as the marine economic zone planning for St.
Vincent and Cape Verde, and my role as a Coordinating Author for the
UN's World Ocean Assessment III, underscore my commitment to global
ocean governance and sustainability.
Overall, my expertise lies at the
intersection of marine ecology, policy, law, economics, and management, where I
continue to integrate scientific research with practical applications to
enhance marine and coastal zone management both in China and globally.
