I am currently working at the Senegalese fisheries research center (CRODT). My research interest focuses on the application and development of ecological models to predict ecosystem services of marine systems under climate change and different exploitation scenarios. In particular, I am interested in the processes governing the stability, diversity and productivity of marine fish communities and their implication on sustainable management of marine systems. I have produced several technical reports and scientific publications (see publications section) and have supervised undergraduate and graduate students in the fields of scientific monitoring and bioecological assessment of marine and coastal ecosystems.
In Senegal, I have conducted several research activities in estuarine and continental environments with CRODT in the Saloum Delta and Casamance. The aim of the project is to assess the real role of MPAs in Senegal in the conservation and sustainability of fishery resources and to identify the factors that make MPAs effective tools for managing fishery resources and conserving biodiversity.
In the sub-region, I worked as part of the AGD-Pelagics project (SRFC -MAVA). Our objective was to improve the management of small pelagics in West Africa. The specific objectives are to harmonise and dematerialise fishing survey forms in four West African countries (Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritania and Senegal) and to create a common survey form for the four SRFC (Sub-Regional Fisheries Commission) countries participating in the project, with a view to extending it to the other SRFC countries in the future. This survey form for small-scale fishing is based on a compilation and synthesis of existing (or former) fishing forms. The harmonisation of survey sheets is intended to facilitate the exchange of information between SRFC countries, to facilitate the compilation of information in the SRFC area and ultimately to improve analyses on the assessment of the state of exploited fish stocks.
