I am a data scientist working for a consulting company that applies data science heavily fisheries management, risk and stock assessment. My day to day work involves applying machine learning to indigenous language (in particular, the Māori language of the indigenous people of New Zealand).
Skills
I am primarily a machine learning practitioner. As a mathematician by training, I apply mathematical thinking to all domains that I work in.
I also apply myself to more general problems around the ethical use of machine learning and other modern statistical technologies around New Zealand, such as data privacy and data soverignty, especially for indigenous data.
