Activities
As a Senior Ranger in the Vallée de Mai, I play a major role in the research
team in ongoing research and monitoring program on fauna and flora. I act
as a key component of the black parrot team and now lead this monitoring program
in the field. I have completed the Durrell Endangered Species Management
(DESMAN) course based at Jersey Zoo in the UK and he was trained as an EDGE
(Evolutionary Distinct and Globally Endangered) fellow focusing on black
parrots under a recent national project as part of the Darwin Initiative. I
also received specialized training in climbing and mist-netting, but most
importantly, I obtained a natural passion for the wonderful black parrots.
Skills
Since March 2007 to April 2010 I worked at Fond Ferdinand
Nature Reserve as a field worker supervisor, where I supervised park staff, including
general maintenance of grounds and preparation of reserve under Praslin
Development Fund (PDF). From October 2011
until now I am working with Seychelles Island Foundation (SIF) Vallée de Mai as a senior Ranger, where
I managed to develop more skills such as Bird handling and banding, Climbing skills, Data collection, Visitor guide
(bird, invertebrates and conservation information). I have also attended some
short courses; Earthwatch
Fellowship: Capacity development program in April 2015 entailing Research survey design and implementation, Presentation
skills, Personal development skills, in 2012 I was nominated as the Seychelles
Black Parrot EDGE Fellow by the Zoological Society, London until 2015. I also attended training in November
2013 in collaboration with the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation (MWF) Fellowship
covering research on the endemic Mauritian echo-parakeet where I collected data,
monitored birds and developed in rope and Harness tree climbing. I also attended trainings such
as First aid and Fire fighting. In February 2016 I attended the DESMAN
Course: Durrell Endangered Species Management Graduate Certificate. The course
covered Conservation Educations, Facilitation & Communication, management &
leadership and basic GIS for conservation which I completed in May 2016.
