The rationale for this professional development activity is to engage the business community in ocean literacy. The need for this kind of training was recognized by the UN Sustainable Development goals (specifically SDG 14) and the ongoing work of the IOC-UNESCO leading up to the Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030), including global conferences, workshops, and meetings.
