The IOC WG TrendsPO was formed to investigate climate change and global trends of phytoplankton in the oceans. The kick-off meeting of WG TrendsPO took place with the support by SOA and Sun Yat-sen University in Zhuhai during December 8-12, 2016. In the meeting, participants agreed to the data management plan?outlined the subject tasks and the data analysis and synthesis that will be performed to understand commonalities and contrasts with regard to ecological responses to natural, man-made changes and climate change captured by our global network of coastal phytoplankton time series. The 1st meeting was also a focal point for identifying phytoplankton scientists with common interests, expertise and relevant data sets who would like to participate in this second meeting. We will continue to work the subjects as outlined in the 1st meeting and any topics relevant to WG TrendsPO objectives suggested by new comers.
