Activities

1. Mangrove Restoration with Malay Heritage
Bandar Bakau will restore mangrove ecosystems with Malay heritage. The project, "Where The History and Heritage of Malay are Interwoven at The Roots of Mangrove", will blend conservation with cultural tourism. Visitors will learn about the cultural significance of mangroves in the Malay world, along with ecological knowledge. This new approach links coastal restoration initiatives with local traditions, bridging the people and their past through storytelling, handicrafts, and performances, which affirm the interconnectedness of Malay culture and mangroves.

2. Blue Carbon and Ocean Biodiversity Conservation
The project focuses on mangrove restoration for blue carbon initiatives, where mangrove conservation for CO2 sequestration and their significant contribution as marine animal habitats become the focus. This aligns with international climate change mitigation strategies, converting coastal protection initiatives into pillars of the international reduction of carbon. Carbon sequestration and biodiversity restoration will be attained through collaborations with science for quantification, ensuring economic and environmental sustainability.

3. Ocean-Based Eco-Tourism and Empowering Communities
Bandar Bakau will develop eco-tourism that is community-based, with an emphasis on education about the importance of mangroves in protecting ocean ecosystems. The tours will emphasize the richness of marine life in the support of mangroves and how the ecosystems support fisheries and marine life. Cultural aspects will also be incorporated, including traditional Malay fishing methods, to give visitors a sense of history.

4. Ocean Waste-to-Value Initiative
With a waste-to-value initiative, Bandar Bakau will allow the community to collect marine waste and turn it into green crafts and green building materials. This reduces ocean pollution and generates income, building a circular economy model that strengthens the community's relationship with ocean conservation. Local entrepreneurs and artisans will be collaborated with to drive this initiative.

5. Marine Science Research Hub for Local Youth
The initiative entails a design for a center for marine research, which will entail the inclusion of local youths and students studying oceanography in climate resilience, coastal adaptation studies, and marine research. The center will be an inter-university, NGOs, and government collaboration for promotion of science studies on coastal systems and training for marine conservation studies and research methodology for the young people.
