Activities

Our mission is to stop the loss of dugongs and their seagrass habitats across the Indian and Pacific Ocean basins.

The Dugong and Seagrass Conservation Project will enhance the effectiveness of conservation of dugongs and their seagrass ecosystems through community-based stewardship at key dugong sites, promote sustainable fisheries practices and offer incentives to pay for the cost of change in practices and/or provide solutions to diversify income sources. We will also work to increase the availability of critical knowledge for conservation action for dugongs and seagrass, and mainstream dugong and seagrass conservation priorities into national and regional policies and planning.

The Dugong and Seagrass Conservation Project covers eight countries and represents the first coordinated approach across a wide range of countries toward the conservation of dugongs and their seagrass habitats. The Dugong and Seagrass Conservation Project runs through 38 national projects located in Indonesia, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mozambique, Sri Lanka, Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste and Vanuatu, managed by 26 local partners. Each of the national projects is dedicated to IncentivesResearchPolicyEducation & Awareness, being the key ingredients of the Dugong and Seagrass Conservation Project.
