I´m an oceanographer with 12 years of experience running a citizen science program for elementary school students. In 2012, I created the Monitoramento Mirim Costeiro Program with the aim of providing practical learning experiences to children, connecting them with the ocean through science, and engaging them as researchers and Junior Ocean Guardians. I launched this program in Garopaba, south Brazil, where I founded the Monitoramento Mirim Costeiro Institute in 2018. Since 2019, I have been replicating the program in other Brazilian and Portuguese coastal cities. Currently, I'm in Portugal pursuing a PhD in Science Education at the University of Lisbon, with the aim of creating new pedagogical tools and frameworks to promote ocean citizenship in elementary education.
