Activities
I have done Masters in Marine Biotechnology from University of Stirling, Scotland in 2018. During the course of I had opportunities to learn and work with Institute of Aquaculture, one of the leading marine research institutions in UK. I gained experience in Cell Culturing, Genetic engineering, Bioinformatics and statistical analysis, sea water chemistry, reef physiology, laboratory protocols and scientific writing.
After completion of my postgraduate studies, I have been working as a Research Assistant for University of Sussex in a project forecasting with Fishermen: Co-Production of ocean weather knowledge with artisanal fishermen of South West India-Project Funded by LRGS, UK. My professional experiences research and development projects with University of Sussex enriched me to conducting research, surveys and interviews to gain the better result for the project. It also capacitated me to analysing statistics, maintaining database, compiling and presenting information orally, visually and in writing under the supervision of the Project head. I also have experience Manage field data and scientific weather predictions maps, logistics and inventory for the Project and Co-production Ocean weather and climate knowledge and weather patterns over southwest Indian coast using both indigenous knowledge and modern meteorology.
Being an Engineer in Biotechnology and a scuba diver, I have also the experiences of working with organisations like Friends of Marine Life (FML), an indigenous marine research organisation in Kerala and M.S.Swaminadhan Research Foundation (MSSRF) with a capacity of marine researcher, Climate Activist and Community youth leader. During my work with FML and MSSRF, I Documented the details of seabed ecosystems and natural reefs in Sotheastern Arabian Sea and maintained the database of marine biodiversity in this region. Experience with these research organizations enriched me with the planning and implementation of tasks in orientation to result and the continuous updating and communication of data and reports to scientific and civil community.
As a founding member of Coastal Students Cultural Forum (CSCF), I am undertaking marine environment related voluntary activism and promoting ocean literacy with coastal youth and graduate students. I am also volunteering as with Radio Kadal-Community radio for fishermen in Trivandrum. In addition to this, I am volunteering with Climate Science,Ireland on Climate Education in India. I frequently speak at national and international conferences on climate change, conservation of marine resources and issues of indigenous Fisherfolk in South India.
I am working with Dakshin in the Sustainable Fisheries programme on a recently-launched project in Lakshadweep Islands that aims to bring together various fisheries stakeholders for participatory management of fishery resources. My role largely involves working towards creating and facilitating an initiative of fisheries co-management that is inclusive and integrates different stakeholders. Also, I am doing PhD at Trans-Disciplinary University, Bangalore on integrating fisher's knowledge and science.
