This document presents a summary of the current concept for the International Platform for Ocean Sustainability (IPOS), traces the history of engagement by the IOC Secretariat in its development and the potential link to the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. It concludes with an analyses of different options for future engagement by IOC in IPOS, including resource implications.
