IOC and Law of the Sea

Author(s) Ms Aurora Mateos
Summary The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) of 10 December 1982 (in force since 1994) is also referred to as “the Constitution of the Oceans”. It was the result of about 10 years of negotiations (1973 to 1982) at the Third Conference on the Law of the Sea. The Law of the Sea Convention defines the rights and responsibilities of nations in their use of the world's oceans, establishing a legal regime for the limits of the sea, the management of marine natural resources, and marine scientific research among other matters. But...what is the role of IOC in UNCLOS? and additionally, what is the role of YOUR daily work in UNCLOS?
